Compassionate Men

rise in Tenderness.

Flex with courage.

rest on dignity.

from emotional constriction to a Full range of feeling

Do you often feel angry but can’t pinpoint sadness or fear? Do you feel stuck in a cycle that keeps repeating? Disconnected from the more tender parts of yourself—sadness, fear, grief? Is this causing problems in your relationships with the people you love the most?

Often, men will go to anger or confusion when there’s sadness, fear or loneliness. Often when you can’t make sense of your own feelings, or you can’t reason feelings away, and you know your response won’t work in your relationship with others, so your shut down, lash out, and repeat the cycle. Or you learn to play it real safe and settle for mediocre all the while feeling like there’s a level of connection your missing.

You’re not alone. So many of us have been shaped by systems that reward dominance and punish vulnerability. We were taught to suppress, control, and override our emotions—especially the ones that reveal our sensitivity.

But what if your tenderness wasn’t weakness?

What if sadness and fear were invitations, not flaws?

What if the parts of you that feel powerless… were actually holding the key to your healing?

Facilitated by Jeffrey Batstone EdD LMHC

"Jeffrey's Healing from Dominant Power course allowed me to interrogate masculinity in ways that generated new insights into how I have been shaped, informed, and coerced through both my genetic and cultural inheritances.  The space to do this--made safe by Jeffrey's facilitation and the other men in the small group--gave me the freedom to continue my ongoing work of healing and growth.  I'm grateful!" - Matt

“The sessions were very helpful for me both in increasing my awareness of the effects of dominant power on my relationships, and getting some specific things I could do to begin to break free from perspectives, attitudes, and actions baked into my ideas of what it meant to be a man, a husband, and a father. Particularly helpful was understanding the difference between anger at harm and injustice, compared to rage. I also became more aware of how my tendency to go silent or withdraw was hurting those close to me and how I used it to maintain control. It was especially helpful to experience the time in a group with other people. It added insights and invited deeper exploration along with a shared sense of “I am not alone in this.” - Paul

It was a rich experience to address relational topics I hadn’t yet addressed. I wanted to go deeper and Jeff helped me get kick-started!
